Case Study – Etone College, Nuneaton (for The Matrix Academy Trust)
Etone College is a co-educational, comprehensive secondary school and sixth form for students aged 11–18 located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The key aim of the school is to provide “Progress for All” with a focus on high-quality teaching, extracurricular activities, and community values.
The school recently underwent a major construction project which involved the build of a new two-storey teaching block, consisting of 23no. general teaching classrooms
A key part of the project was the installation of new fire rated door sets designed to improve compartmentation and slow the spread of fire throughout the building.
Alcema Fire Safety provided the following services:
- Installation of Fire Rated Doors, together with hold-open closers integrated with the fire alarm system.
- FD30s and FD60s door sets with laminated finish to the client’s specification, some doors were oversized and with side frames. Doors were installed in accordance with our third-party accreditation and relevant fire safety standards to ensure compliance in the event of a fire.
- Emergency lighting installation and signage throughout
- Final inspections were conducted before sign-off and handover to the client
One of the key challenges was carrying out works within an active school. Alcema Fire Safety created a structured programme including safe working zones, low traffic periods and coordinated closely with the school management team.
The Project was completed successfully and delivered to the clients satisfaction. Alcema Fire Safety were delighted to be involved in ensuring all fire regulations were met regarding their amazing new build, equally the team are committed in working alongside the school to review the fire safety each year to ensure Etone College remains compliant.
