Case Study – Sherbourne Fields SEN, Coventry (for Coventry City Council)
Sherbourne Fields is an all age specialist school that provides for pupils with a broad spectrum of need; including a wide range of physical, medical and learning needs.
Alcema Fire Safety had the privilege of working alongside this fantastic school to ensure their recently built, two-storey teaching blocks, which included 9 classrooms, adhered to all the very latest fire safety regulations.
Due to the nature of the school environment, particular attention was given to maintaining access across the school with minimal disruption.
Scope of Work:
- Installation of certified fire rated door sets
- Fitting hold open devices to selected doors, testing and comissioning of installed equipment.
- Emergency lighting installation and signage throughout
- Final inspections were conducted before sign-off and handover to the client. Works in the main project also included refurbishment to existing 6th Form and commercial kitchen spaces with associated Fire integrations.
Delivering the works within a SEN school required a considerate and carefully managed approach at all times throughout the project. We worked closely with the school ensuring that the works were carried out safely and with minimal disruption, this included pre planned and signed off scheduling for all works, clear separation zones that were monitored and checked and maintaining safe access routes throughout for pupils, staff and contractors.
